Media and Peace Training at Regional Public Speaking & Exchange 2024 in Huye

As part of the ongoing Regional Public Speaking and Exchange (PSE) 2024 in Huye, our team is proud to be leading impactful training sessions focused on Media, Peace, Conflict, Hate Speech, and Fake News. This year’s PSE event brings together passionate youth and educators from across Rwanda to strengthen their voices in promoting peace and responsible communication.

Our trainers, Patrick Sibomana and Jean Aime Muhawenayo, are at the forefront of these sessions—guiding participants through critical discussions and practical tools for navigating the complex media landscape. From identifying misinformation to understanding how digital platforms can fuel or resolve conflict, the training is equipping youth with the skills they need to become responsible media consumers and peace ambassadors.

“Young people today are not just media consumers—they are content creators and influencers in their own right,” said Patrick Sibomana. “We want to equip them with the tools to use that influence positively, to build peace and counter harmful narratives.”

Participants have shown tremendous enthusiasm, eager to reflect on their roles as young communicators in today’s digital world. Through interactive workshops, they are exploring how to use media as a force for unity, empathy, and truth.

“It’s inspiring to see the level of engagement from these students,” added Jean Aime Muhawenayo. “They understand the power of words and stories. With the right guidance, they can lead the way in promoting tolerance, truth, and peace online.”

One student participant shared: “This training gave me new insight into how harmful fake news and hate speech can be not just online, but in our everyday lives. I want to be part of the solution.”

By fostering critical thinking and ethical communication, the PSE Regional event continues to serve as a platform where youth-led dialogue leads to youth-led change.

We remain committed to supporting young Rwandans in becoming informed, courageous voices for peace both online and offline.
